2014 Castle Educational Home Tour
We turned this formerly un-kept duplex into a charming single family home. There are now 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, a formal living room with a gas fireplace, a large family room in the basement that incorporated existing built-ins, and a TV room with a custom entertainment center. The new mudroom contains cubbies, pantry storage to compliment the new kitchen, and a key drop/tech hub. Energy efficiency was improved by adding insulation to the attic, replacing windows, replacing the boiler and hot water maker, and providing energy star appliances. The woodwork and built-ins were salvaged and reused. We also saved and refinished as much hardwood as we could. We constructed a master suite on the 2nd floor. The master bath has a beautiful shower and marble hex floor. Custom details added on the exterior include new concrete steps and walk, flower boxes, and new bracketed overhang at the rear entrance.
