This mid century home was extremely well cared for and had been “remodeled” in the past 20 years. The more recent updates were done without the homes mid century character in mind. The new homeowner wanted to pay homage to the style of the 1950’s mid century rambler.

The existing bathroom layout remained but period appropriate colors and patterns were added through colorful tiles and linear lines. A new vanity cabinet with quartz countertop adds a lot of storage space and the wood grain adds much needed warmth to the space. Modern fixtures and lighting accent the tile work and enhance the mid century design.

In the kitchen, the existing countertops, flooring and cabinet boxes remain. New slab style doors and drawers add a modern feel as opposed to the older country style cabinet fronts. A retro faucet adds that character, and a funky geometric backsplash adds the modern flair while complimenting the existing granite countertops. In the end the homeowner was able to keep costs down by keeping the existing footprints of the two spaces, but updating the finishes to round out her mid-century modern home.
