Doors, Storm Doors, and Entry Covers

Doors, Storm Doors, and Covered Entries are a specialization of our Special Projects Team.  Below we touch base on the basics of replacing or repairing doors, storm doors, and covered entries.  Leaky drafty doors are not energy efficient and lead to cold areas of your home.  Whether you want to repair and weatherstrip your existing door or replace it Castle can handle the entire project including demo, framing, install, trim, and paint or just the parts you need completed.  Already have a door just need it installed, we do that too!

Here is a link to a great article from This Old House about exterior wood doors.  Check it out if you would like to learn more about doors.

Exterior Trim and Moldings – Keep your house looking neat and tidy with new window and door trim.

Wood

Composite

PVC

Aluminum Wrap

Many older homes have wood exterior trim.  This can be primed and painted “SPF” which stands for Spruce, Pine, or Fur wood species.  Cedar trim is also a popular choice for the exterior.

Composite Exterior Trim Materials have been available for decades.  There are a variety of materials and resins used to make composite trim.  Some brands of siding sell color matched trim. Some common brands are:

  • Miratec – Primed MDF
  • Hardie – Cement board composite
  • LP Smartside – Engineered wood that is treated with proprietary SmartGuard® process

Cellular PVC – It is engineered to resist expansion and contraction. The vinyl material is fire retardant and protected against rot and termites. Will not rot, crack, splinter or split.  It is resistant to mold and mildew and impervious to moisture.  Best, it does not require painting, but accepts paints and stains well.

Sometimes it makes sense to wrap existing wood trim with Aluminum.  This covers and protects the wood from rot and provides a durable surface.  Typically there are 8-12 color choices for aluminum wrap.
